As a Jamaican, its innate to always exclaim everything is Kool, everything is Irie….Mi good man, mi aarite. When in actuality, you are falling apart, you are beat, you are running on fumes. But the sad truth these days, is that we glorify being busy, wearing it as a badge of honour. Everyone wants to seem so BOOKED and BUSY, they become booked, busy and BURNT out. That is not at all what life is about. Life is about fulfillment. Living in the moment. Jamaican people are notorious for always trying to have a good time, you can find someone, somewehere playing music, dancing, going out most nights of the week, we love enjoying life. But life isn’t always so glamourous and easy like Sunday morning. We have jobs, we have to put food on the table, and especially if you’ve been working to create a certain lifestyle, you feel the need to push even harder to maintain it.
While there is absolutely nothing wrong with working hard, we have to learn to take a break. Just sit back and relax. Take a moment or two and relax. Sounds so cliche, but the old adage is golden. You perform at your peak when you’re feeling refreshed. So stop now, stop! Put down the phone, put it on silent as a matter of fact. Think of nothing while you do this short exercise, close your eyes and take long deep breaths; inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth, repeat this 5 times and then slowly open your eyes.
A momentary refresher, wasn’t that simple and your shoulders automatically relaxed. Sometimes taking a moment is all we need. Nothing fancy. So as you go about your daily routine, reminder to take a breather.
